"I can say without shame that the dark illuminates me. It is a paradox that aids poetry and that I speak of without shame. I believe this oblique vision comes from having been a child in some lost place where there was a transfusion of nature and communion with it. It was the boy and the little animals. It was the boy and the sun. It was the boy and the river. It was the boy and the trees. Today I write mischief with words. It's just a matter of swapping the light that illuminates for a darkness that illuminates."
